Announcing the 2009 Bethesda Magazine Short Story Writing Contest
Categories
- Open category: Open to all residents of Montgomery County, Md.
- High School category: Open to all residents of Montgomery County, Md. who are enrolled in a public or private high school as of March 16, 2009
Prizes
- Open category:
First prize: $500
Second prize: $250
Third prize: $100
- High school category:
First prize: $250
Second prize: $100
Third prize: $50
Submission requirements
- The maximum length is 4,000 words
- Submissions must be sent, as Microsoft Word attachments, to: susan.coll@bethesdamagazine.com
- The submission deadline is March 16, 2009
- Each story must include the writer's full name, address, phone number, email address and which category he/she is entering. High school students must include what high school they attend and what grade they are in. Entries without this information will be excluded from the competition.
- The winning writers will be notified by May 15, 2009.
The winning stories in each category will be published in the July/August issue of Bethesda Magazine and on the magazine's Web site, www.bethesdamagazine.com. The runners up will be published on the Web site.

Paula Whyman, award-winning fiction writer, whose work appeared recently in The Hudson Review and on NPR's "All Things Considered."

Sarah Pekkanen, author of the forthcoming novel Opposite of Me, and a Bethesda Magazine columnist.
Jean Heilprin Diehl, award-winning short-story writer and author of the children's book Loon Chase.
Adriana Bourgoin, author of Nine Months in August.
