Lots of Picks at Park Potomac

Park Potomac is one of those “urban villages” that get plunked down on a chunk of empty land and combine housing with office, hotel and retail space. They’re supposed to be the new, upscale version of Main Street, but they often feel contrived and sterile to me. Nonetheless, this latest incarnation at Seven Locks and Montrose roads in Potomac is attracting an intriguing combination of restaurants.

Zoes Kitchen (12505 Park Potomac Ave.), a Mediterranean fast-food chain based in Birmingham, Ala. was the first to open, and it’s been joined by Elevation Burger (12525 Park Potomac Ave.), a locally-founded organic hamburger chain that’s supposedly the first of its kind in the country.

The next place to open, hopefully by the end of this week, is The Wine Harvest (12525-B Park Potomac Ave.), the second outpost for the Meyrowitz family, whose Gaithersburg wine bar with the same name is a popular Cheers-like gathering place. I took a look at the new digs, decorated handsomely in gold and brown, with seating for 40, plus 10 bar stools. Once up and running, it’ll offer about 14 wines by the glass, plus sell up to 500 bottles from around the world. Look for lots of beer, too.

Additionally, in my October 20 blog entry, I wrote about Founding Farmers, a sister to the downtown Washington D.C. restaurant, that’s slated to open at Park Potomac in spring 2011, and there’s also another place in the works. Watch this space.
