Let’s Talk Shop: Current Boutique Opens This Saturday in Bethesda
Current Boutique, DC’s local consignment shopping destination, is opening its fourth location in Bethesda on Saturday, August 25 (hooray!).
Carmen Lopez, the boutique owner, was kind enough to let me take a peek inside the new location and what I saw was a little slice of fashion heaven. Behind its doors is an endless display of designer wears and unique pieces of statement jewelry you won’t find anywhere else (or at these amazing prices). Current Boutique offers consignment pieces that are handpicked based the criteria of great quality and style. The store is carefully organized by styles, sizes and categories, which makes shopping this consignment store easy and fun! Doors open just in time to start accepting and selling fashions for the fall season.
Take a look at some of the amazing frocks and baubles that are waiting for you to show them a good home (without breaking the bank).

What inspired you to open Current Boutique?
My love for swapping clothes with friends encouraged me to open the first Current Boutique. I had a closet overflowing of fantastic, quality items that I didn't wear anymore because of various reasons-I already wore it to a special occasion, I'd been photographed in it too many times, or I just outgrew it. It's a great feeling to see a pre-owned dress go to a new happy home for someone else to enjoy-that's what Current Boutique is all about.
Why do you think that Current Boutique has been successful?
The Current Boutique staff strives to give the customer the best shopping/consignment experience out there. The consignment process is easy and no appointment is necessary. Clothes are reviewed on the spot and consignors receive half of the selling price.
Shoppers can expect handpicked items that are modern and classic. We look for quality and construction of the clothing. Current Boutique loves natural fabrics cotton, silk, wool, cashmere, linen etc.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Our goal is to provide a fun, inviting atmosphere that allows are customer and consignors to enjoy their experience at Current Boutique.
What made you decide to open a location in Bethesda?
I love Bethesda, I grew up in Maryland so I am happy to finally have a boutique here, it was the missing piece. Current Boutique will be central to many shopping destinations and a block away from the metro.
What is your favorite part about owning a boutique?
My favorite part of owning Current Boutique is the amazing people I get to meet. I come across so many personalities on a daily basis people who are creative, outspoken and fun. My staff is AMAZING and I am so happy to work with such a great dedicated team.
What are you price points?
Current Boutique sells modern clothing ranging from J. Crew to Louis Vuitton at a 1/3 of the retail price.
Who are your style icons?
I am inspired by so many people right now. I love Kate Middleton, Leighton Meester, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, they always looks so pretty and pulled together head to toe.
What is your favorite trend for Fall/Winter 2012?
I am loving all the lace, tweed and leather coming out this Fall!
Do you have a favorite fashion/styling tip you could share?
Find a good tailor. Clothes must properly fit your body to look completely polished. If you love something in your closet or while out shopping and it doesn't fit quite right, go to a tailor. A half an inch taken in (or out) here and there can make a huge difference.
Who are your favorite designers?
My favorite clothing labels right now are TIBI, French Connection and BCBG, also Armani Exchange has been coming out with some amazing dresses.
Describe your personal style.
Feminine and Flirty. I love dresses and statement jewelry.
Don’t forget to swing by the new location at 7220 Wisconsin Avenue this weekend.
