Does Anyone Else Have Mornings Like This?
At 8:50 a.m., the phone rang. The caller ID indicated it was a call from the elementary school. Several thoughts ran through my head. Had one of my kids had forgotten something, or could one of them be in trouble. . . already? Either way, this could not be good news. I picked up the phone.
"Hello?" said the caller. It was my 11-year-old daughter.
"Hi," I said, trying to sound somewhat comforting but primarily businesslike.
"Who is this?" she asked.
My eyes rolled heavenward. Seriously?
"It's Mommy," I said.
She was calling to inform me that her brother had worn her new, fuzzy flip-flip slippers to school. It was an outrage.
It was also, I thought, a bit bizarre. I sighed, and told her to tell him that I'd bring his sneakers to the office.
Five minutes later, I entered the school. Apparently his sister had confiscated the flip-flops, because my son was sitting on a bench, swinging his bare feet back and forth.
He couldn't repress his grin. "They're so soft!" he said. "I couldn't resist."
Do other people have mornings like this?
