Answer

What significant change occurred in Montgomery County Schools in 1954?   ANSWER: B: The school system started to desegregate In 1860, Maryland and Montgomery County were among the last in the nation to institute free public schools. For the first 12 years, black children could not attend county public schools; segregated schools were established in 1872. Following Brown v. the Board of Education in 1954, the county public school system began to desegregate in 1955, and completed its efforts during the 1960-61 school year. Editor's note: The above answer was corrected to more accurately reflect the school system's timeline for desegregation.
