MentorPrize Holds “BANDING” TOGETHER Inaugural Fundraiser
On October 26, 2017, MentorPrize hosted its inaugural fundraiser in support of its efforts to recruit mentors for at-risk youth in the Washington, D.C. region. The event, “Banding Together,” underscored the need for more quality mentoring relationships as a means of improving the lives of mentees and bridging the growing gap between the privileged and disadvantaged.
More than 200 guests gathered for the event at the Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase, where they enjoyed live music by Kentucky Avenue and Mercury's Velvet. In keeping with the Kentucky Derby theme, guests sipped on mint juleps and dined on local barbecue and derby pie. The club was transformed by Vintage Affairs and SparkleMonkey to resemble an old farmhouse with wine barrel cocktail tables and vintage bars. A silent auction attracted heavy bidding for luxury getaways, sporting events and dining opportunities.
MentorPrize, which was founded more than two years ago, has recruited more than 400 potential mentors for nearly two dozen mentoring programs serving a broad range of constituents - from foster kids to teen parents.
