The Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture hosted its 2018 Gala in the Park on Saturday, May 19. Celebrating the partnership’s 15th anniversary, the Crystal Gala honored Jeffrey Z. Slavin, co-director of the Sanford and Doris Slavin Foundation and mayor of Somerset, for his outstanding commitment to Glen Echo Park and to many nonprofits throughout Montgomery County. Karen and Tom Natelli served as honorary chairs, and Arch Campbell was emcee. Special recognition was given to Ike and Catherine Leggett for their generous support of the arts over many years. More than 340 guests, including Congressman Jamie Raskin and Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, enjoyed a reception in the park’s iconic Bumper Car Pavilion followed by dinner and dancing in the historic Spanish Ballroom. The event raised a record $160,000 to support the park’s arts programs and to launch a Scholarship & Transportation Fund to enable under-served youth to benefit from the park's programs. Guests also had the opportunity to view exhibitions in the park’s Popcorn Gallery and Stone Tower Gallery, ride the carousel and have portrait photographs taken. (Photos by DCEventPhoto)
