On Friday, May 18th, Bethesda celebrated national “Bike To Work Day” with a ‘pit stop’ where participants were able to eat, drink, listen to speakers, win prizes, and see the unveiling of new bike racks.

The event was emceed by District 16 Delegate Ariana Kelly, and attended by Maryland State Senator Brian Frosh, Maryland State Delegates Susan Lee and Craig J. Zucker, Montgomery County Regional Services Center Director Ken Hartman, Alex Wong (representative from Congressman Chris Van Hollen’s office), Chairman of the Bethesda Transportation Solutions Advisory Committee and Vice-President of Monument Bank Clyde Garrett, Montgomery County Councilman George Leventhal, and Montgomery County Council Vice President Roger Berliner

The new bike racks unveiled at the event are the result of a partnership between Bethesda Green, Honest Tea, Federal Realty Investment Trust, The Coca-Cola Company, and Bethesda Urban Partnership (BUP), and are made from recycled plastic and Honest Kids™ pouches.  They will increase the number of bike parking spots in downtown Bethesda by 50%, from 200 to 300.
