Web Intern Information

Bethesda Magazine is seeking a bright and enthusiastic college student for an unpaid summer intern to work on the magazine's website, BethesdaMagazine.com. The internship will provide a great way for a student to strengthen his/her resume, obtain recommendations, earn credits, and have fun while learning in a hands-on environment. The intern will work directly with the Web Manager and will be involved in all facets of web production.

Roles & Responsibilities:

- Post blogs and stories
- Create and send email alerts
- Research web trends
- Archive stories in custom CMS
- Create new content for the website
- Handle administrative tasks supporting the department
- Coordinate photo galleries for multimedia section
- Manage online calendar

Desire Experience & Qualifications:

- Full-time college student
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 including Photoshop, InDesign, Fireworks and Dreamweaver
- Knowledge of CMS, Basic HTML
- Photo/Video shooting and editing skills
- Experience in writing and editing for AP Style
- Ability to multi-task
- Attention to detail
- Superior organization skills
- Availability to work three days a week during June and July

Editorial Intern Information

The deadline to apply for Bethesda Magazine's 2012 summer internship has passed. Please see information below about our 2013 internship.

In the summer of 2013, Bethesda Magazine will have a full-time, paid editorial intern. The following is information for prospective applicants:

Qualifications

To be considered, an applicant must:

• Be a resident of Montgomery County, Md.
• Be a full-time college student who is between their sophomore and junior years or junior and senior years (preference will be given to the latter).
• Have significant journalism experience, e.g., other internships and/or experience working for a college newspaper or magazine.
• Be planning to pursue a career in journalism, preferably print journalism.
• Be passionate about the craft of journalism.
• Have at least three published clips (blog postings do not count) that demonstrate the candidate’s reporting and writing abilities.
• Be available to work full time in June and July.

Responsibilities

The intern’s responsibilities will include:

• Reporting and writing stories for the magazine.
• Editing and proofreading copy.
• Participating in editorial planning meetings.
• Attending photo shoots.
• Doing research for stories or figures for stories.

Application procedure

• Applicants should send a cover letter (describing his/her qualifications), a résumé and three clips (representing his or her best reporting and writing) to internship@bethesdamagazine.com.
• The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2013.
• Candidates who have been selected for interviews will be notified by March 8, 2012. Interviews will be conducted in person (or, when necessary, by phone) during spring break.
• The winning candidate will be notified in early April 2013.

Compensation

The internship pays $300 per week for nine weeks. The intern will be responsible for his/her own transportation/parking.
