Best Clock and Watch Repair (Editors' Pick)

Ecker’s Clock & Watch Shop

How many “doctors” make house calls? Edward Compton does, for ailing grandfather clocks.

He calls his shop a “clock hospital,” where some 200 timepieces await his nimble hands. He helps these “patients” to mark the passage of time again for fees that range from $5 to $5,000.

Born into a long line of clock- and watchmakers, Compton took over Ecker’s nearly 20 years ago after working for the previous owner.

On any given workday, repaired clocks chime the hour accompanied by the squawks of the shop’s resident parrot. It’s music to the ears of anyone wondering where the time has gone.
