

Staff and students at Thomas W. Pyle Middle School in Bethesda are always willing to try activities to build upon the school’s strong sense of community—like holding a Ping-Pong-a-thon. The event last fall was sponsored by students who work on identifying and resolving school issues.
They’re among a number of groups organized by counselors to help kids feel connected and maintain a “strong sense of pride” in their school, Principal Jennifer Webster says. “We’re constantly assessing: Are we addressing their changing needs?”
