When Jeff Grolig and his family bought Renato’s in 2006, they left a lot of the more popular Italian specialties on the menu—spaghetti and meatballs, eggplant parmesan, fettuccine alfredo. And then they added fish.
Grolig, who was the seafood buyer for Sutton Place Gourmet for 15 years, had opened River Falls Seafood Company (now River Falls Market) right next door to Renato’s in 1998. He also owns a commercial fishing license with a charter boat fisherman on the Eastern Shore. Little wonder that super-fresh rockfish is now the No. 1 seller on the menu.
The other thing people like, Grolig says: “It’s a very friendly atmosphere. You always see people you know.”
