Maplewood Park Place

Unlike at other retirement communities, Maplewood Park Place’s 286 residents own their apartments, the buildings and the land. With the opportunity to serve on two boards and numerous committees, they also have created their own vision for the community for the past 15 years, says Executive Director Scott McAlister.

Dr. Marcella O’Neill, 80, a retired Bethesda psychiatrist, had never considered living in a retirement community. But within 10 minutes of visiting Maplewood eight years ago, she knew she was home. The staff, O’Neill says, respects age in a way most of society doesn’t.

With daily social activities, classes, physical fitness sessions and outings, O’Neill finds the environment stimulating. “I had a full life before I came here,” she says. “Now it’s even fuller.”

Apartments range in price from $400,000 to $800,000.
