Imagination Stage

Forget the fuzzy bunnies and pratfalls of old-style children’s theater: Imagination Stage takes it up a notch and combines silliness with serious fun.

“It isn’t always about laughing and giggling,” explains Artistic Director Janet Stanford, though there’s plenty of both, even in plays tackling tough topics such as bullying and divorce.

Once tucked away in an old shoe store, the 31-year-old Imagination Stage now boasts a gleaming two-theater complex with classrooms and a café. Ticket prices range from $10 to $22.

Bill Sundrink of Silver Spring brings his 11-year-old son, Christopher, who is autistic. “They have great wonderful teachers,” he says of the classes. And “the shows are really great—great production values.”
