Tucked away in the Chevy Chase Lake Shopping Center, Images hair salon offers a low-key atmosphere. “Customers aren’t afraid to ask for exactly what they want,” Manager Patsy Fortune says.

Bethesda’s Evelyn Sommers has been getting her hair cut there for a decade now by stylist Nancy Emanian. “It’s a friendship,” Sommers says. “We know all about each other’s family and lives. And I always get compliments on my hair.”

Haircuts run $52; color or highlights, $50 and up.
