Congressional Country Club’s founding members include Calvin Coolidge, William Randolph Hearst and William C. Carnegie. And its award-winning golf course has hosted the likes of Tiger Woods at major tournaments, including the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open, which will be held there for the third time in June.
“The Blue Course at Congressional has undergone some very good changes in advance of the U.S. Open,” says Hank Thompson, the U.S. Golf Association’s championship manager for the 2011 U.S. Open, “and, as a result, will be a challenging test of the skills of the world’s best players.”
But golf pros and members of the elite aren’t the only ones who appreciate the course’s rolling hills, narrow, tree-lined fairways and water hazards. Members of the Bethesda club say it offers not only challenge but beauty.
