Since You Asked: Is There Any Plan To Add A Camera To Trigger the Left Turn Arrow from Bradley Boulevard onto Wisconsin Avenue?

Questions and answers about the Bethesda

A car waits at the red light on Bradley Boulevard, waiting to make a left onto Goldsboro Road.

Is there any plan to add a camera to trigger the left turn arrow?  Even when there are no cars, folks heading south on Bradley have to sit through the entire light cycle.

The intersection of Bradley and Wisconsin is almost too sensitive.  If you are not sitting at the light to turn left onto Wisconsin when it is about to go green, the arrow won't turn on.  And, if there are no other cars waiting at the light to go straight or turn right, you don't even get a regular green light.  At 5 a.m., this creates a very long wait!

Here’s what we heard from Esther Bowring, a spokeswoman for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation:

MD 191 (Bradley Boulevard) at MD 614 (Goldsboro Road):  The vehicle sensor for the westbound left turn from Bradley Boulevard on to Goldsboro Road was damaged.  As a result, the left-turn signal is programmed to come up even when there are no vehicles present.  We expect to repair the vehicle sensor and restore normal operations by the end of this week.

MD 355 (Wisconsin Avenue) at MD 191 (Bradley Boulevard):  We have checked the operations at this intersection and confirmed that all vehicle sensors are fully functional.  There were no issues with the vehicle detection.
