Leggett to Hold Event Honoring Ledecky and Other Local Olympians

Dec. 19 celebration will recognize county athletes who brought home six gold medals

County officials are planning a Dec. 19 celebration for the local Olympians who bagged a total of six gold medals during the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The event will start at 7 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building on 1 Veterans Place. Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will be honoring four county residents who competed in the August games.

The Olympians who will be recognized are swimmers Katie Ledecky of Bethesda and Jack Conger of Rockville, canoeist Ashley Nee of Darnestown and Greek-American freestyle wrestler Helen Maroulis of Rockville. Ledecky captured four gold medals in the summer games this year, while Conger and Maroulis each won a gold medal.
