Outdoor Movie Night—Friday night—Jackson-Ken Gar Center, Kensington
The Disney animated movie, Inside Out, which brings to life the complicated emotions of a young girl who just moved with her family to San Francisco, will be shown outside on a large screen in Kensington. Snacks will be available for purchase and viewers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.
The free movie screening will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Big 100 Throwback Bash With Rumours: A tribute to Fleetwood Mac—Friday night—The Fillmore, Silver Spring
Rumours, an Atlanta-based Fleetwood Mac tribute band, will bring the spirit of Fleetwood Mac to The Fillmore on Friday in a performance that features a six-person band with a diverse range of musical experience and instruments.
Standing room tickets are available for $15.50 for the 8 p.m. show.
Matt Hutchison and the Big Gin—Friday night—Rockville Town Square, Rockville
Matt Hutchison, a pop and rock artist from Baltimore, will perform at Rockville Town Square on Friday night as part of the Rockville Town Square Friday Night Live Summer Concert Series. Select restaurants around the square will offer food and drink specials.
The concert is free and will run from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Bridges of Madison County Musical—Friday through Sunday—Gaithersburg Arts on the Green, Gaithersburg
Arts on the Green, Gaithersburg’s home for the visual and performing arts, partnered with the Damascus Theater Co. to perform the musical, The Bridges of Madison County. The musical, set in 1965, tells the love story of a National Geographic photographer and an Italian-American housewife in Iowa. The show is intended for ages 14 and older.
Tickets are $12 for children under 14 and $22 for all other audience members. There are performances on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Cheryl Lynn—Saturday night—Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, Bethesda
Cheryl Lynn, known for her dancing music and R&B hits, “Got To Be Real” and “Encore,” will perform at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club on Saturday night. Comedian Teddy Carpenter also will appear.
Tickets range from $60-$65 for the 8 p.m. show.
Swing Dance—Saturday night—Spanish Ballroom, Glen Echo Park
Dance the night away on Saturday with swing dancing and live music from the Blue Moon Big Band on its 20th anniversary. No partner or prior swing dancing experience is necessary, but swing dancing instructors will teach a beginner dance lesson from 8 to 9 p.m.
Tickets bought prior to the event are $15 and include admission to the dance lesson. Tickets bought at the door are $20. The event will run from 8 to 12 p.m.
Just TRyan It Triathlon—Sunday—Landon School, Bethesda
The nonprofit, Just TRyan it, hosts its annual kids triathlon race Sunday at Landon to raise money for families fighting childhood cancer.
Racers can register for $80. Guests can make a donation or show up to watch the race, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Landon School.
Fit Fathers Day—Sunday—Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring
The fifth annual Fit Fathers Day, which strives to pair Father’s Day celebrations with healthy-living strategies, will take place Sunday morning in downtown Silver Spring with free work-out classes and giveaways from area gyms and athletic stores.
The event is free and open to the public and will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
