Rockville Man Dies After SUV Strikes Back of Ride On Bus

Four people in the bus were transported to local hospitals

The driver of an SUV died and four others were injured after he struck the back of a Ride On bus in Rockville Thursday night, according to Montgomery County police.

Police identified the driver as Durmus Kantar, 49, of the 5200 block of Russett Road in Rockville. He died after being transported to Suburban Hospital.

The crash occurred at about 8 p.m. on Norbeck Road. A Ride On bus was stopped near Avery Road when a Honda Element, driven by Kantar, struck the back of the bus, according to police.

The driver of the bus—Rosa Maria Rodriguez, 57, of Montgomery Village—and three passengers were injured.

Medics took Rodriguez and Monique Ayonah Williams, 24, of Silver Spring, to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center, while He Jin Ou, 56, of Rockville, and Avelyn Guinano, 48, of Rockville, were brought to MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.

Police are investigating the crash and have asked anyone with information to call 240-773-6620.
