Shooting near Germantown vigil leaves one injured
Police say a 21-year-old man was shot Tuesday night in Germantown, in the area of a vigil for a teenager killed during a prom after-party last weekend. The man is in serious condition and was taken to an area trauma center for treatment. The shooting took place in the area of Sage Way and Cinnamon Drive, near a vigil for Genesis McCarter-Berretto, the 18-year-old girl who was shot and killed last weekend. [WJLA]
Post releases endorsements for County Council, school board races
The Washington Post has endorsed Hans Riemer, Gabe Albornoz, Marilyn Balcombe and Evan Glass for at-large seats on the Montgomery County Council. The paper's editorial board wrote the endorsements were based on an evaluation of which candidates could help broaden the county's tax base. The Post endorsed Andrew Friedson for the District 1 council seat and Craig Rice, Sidney Katz, Nancy Navarro and Tom Hucker for re-election. Julie Reiley and incumbent Pat O'Neill picked up the paper's endorsement for seats on the county school board. [The Washington Post]
D.C. area ranks as best summer travel spot
A WalletHub study has named the D.C. area as the nation's best summer travel destination. The study, which considered the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas, took into account travel costs, hotel and restaurant prices, flights, the weather and the average price of a meal. The WalletHub study notes that D.C. is easy to access, is relatively safe and has a wide range of activities. [WTOP]
Texas city says it's no longer in contention for Amazon's HQ2
The city of Arlington in Texas released the details of its incentives to land Amazon's second headquarters after learning that it was no longer being considered for the corporate base. The city had offered $921 million in incentives, promising that the company would not have to pay any property taxes for a decade and offering Amazon structured parking. Amazon had named the Austin and Dallas regions among the 20 finalists for the location of HQ2. But Arlington officials learned a couple weeks ago that the city had been eliminated from contention, although other nearby sites were still in the running. [The Texas Tribune]
