Hogan offers $5 billion in incentives to Amazon

Gov. Larry Hogan will offer Amazon more than $3 billion in tax breaks and grants and about $2 billion in transportation upgrades to persuade the tech giant to open its second headquarters in Montgomery County. The offer is the second-most generous set of incentives made public so far, behind only New Jersey, which offered $7 billion. Hogan’s plan would include a 10-year package of tax credits for each new qualifying job created, state and local property tax credits and tax exemptions for construction material and equipment. Maryland lawmaker asks for speed limit increase

State Sen. Joanne Benson, a Democrat from Prince George’s County, has put forward a bill to create a consistent speed limit between I-270, I-495 and I-70. The proposal would increase the speed limits on I-495 and I-270 to 70 mph. [WTOP]

Historic Lyttonsville bridge in path of Purple Line faces unclear fate

Montgomery County residents have pushed for the preservation of a historic 100-year-old bridge in Lyttonsville that is set to be removed for the construction of the Purple Line. County leaders haven’t yet decided whether the bridge will be incorporated into artwork at a Purple Line station or moved to a recreational trail. The community, northwest of Silver Spring, was founded by a free black laborer in 1853. The bridge served as an important site to the local black community during segregation. [Washington Post]

Montgomery College seeks developer to build at life science center

Montgomery College’s Germantown campus is seeking developers to build offices in its bioscience education and research complex. The 150,000-square-foot bioscience office building would include lab space and areas for companies to conduct research. [Bisnow]
