Montgomery County police are looking for an alleged member of MS-13 who officers say participated in an attempted armed robbery that led to a police chase on the Beltway in November.

Police obtained a warrant to arrest Jose “Malandro” Guilermo Molina-Arevelo, 24, charging him with two counts of attempted armed robbery and two counts of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery, according to a police press release issued Thursday. He allegedly participated in a Nov. 3 attempted robbery of a Cash Depot in Wheaton.

Five other men were previously charged for the attempted robbery attempt after police officers spotted their van that day in Takoma Park and pursued them onto I-495. Juan Carlos Gomez, 37, who was the driver of the van, was killed after he left the vehicle and was struck by an unmarked police cruiser near the Route 1 exit at College Park.

Four men—Marcio Roney Avila-Castro, 21; Yeruin J. Romero-Rivera, 21; Juan R. Ramirez-Delgado, 34; and Edwin Geovanny Zelaya-Ramirez, 17—were arrested at the scene and another, Miguel A. Ayala-Rivera, 23, was arrested later that night. They are all awaiting a five-day trial in June on armed robbery and assault charges. Ayala-Rivera and Avila-Castro are also facing additional armed robbery charges.

Molina-Arevelo, the man still wanted by police, last lived on Valley View Avenue in Kensington, according to police. He frequents the Home Depot at 14000 Georgia Ave. in Aspen Hill.

Police describe him as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, and may have an eyebrow ring and earrings in both ears.

Police say he is a “known member” of MS-13, a transnational street gang with a presence in the county.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police at 301-279-8000 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Solvers of Montgomery County at 866-411-TIPS (8477).
