Weekend Events: The Roots Come to Silver Spring; Plays and Farmers Markets

The Roots—Thursday night—The Fillmore, Silver Spring

Via The Fillmore

Hip-hop group The Roots, which has performed as Jimmy Fallon’s house band on his late night shows since 2009, is coming to Silver Spring. Founded by Black Thought and Questlove, the band has 11 albums under its belt. The opening act is D.C. go-go group Junkyard Band.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $69.50.

The Book of Will—Thursday to Saturday—Round House Theatre, Bethesda

Via Round House 

Round House Theatre’s production of The Book of Will, which follows friends of William Shakespeare working to preserve and publish his first folio after his death, ends its run this weekend in Bethesda.

Tickets are $45 to $56 for evening shows through Saturday.

Charlotte’s Web—Friday to Sunday—Imagination Stage, Bethesda

Via Imagination Stage

The Imagination Stage also continues its run of Charlotte’s Web. The play, recommended for ages 5 and up, features live music.

Tickets are $14 to $32 for shows throughout the weekend. The play ends its run Jan. 7.

Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert—Saturday—Strathmore, North Bethesda

Dancers from the Kiev-Aniko Ballet of Ukraine and the International Champion Ballroom Dancers will perform to music from the Strauss Symphony of America for a New Year’s concert at Strathmore’s Music Center. The concert, which has been held in the area for 17 years, is inspired by a similar holiday show in Vienna.

Tickets are $69 to $125 for the 3 p.m. show.

Winter Farmers & Artist Market—Saturday—Kentlands Main Street Market, Gaithersburg

Via City of Gaithersburg

The Winters Farmers & Artist Market will include a number of vendors selling chocolates, home goods, gift items, handcrafted jewelry, small batch liquor and other items. The event will also feature tastings and children’s activities.

The market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
