A house fire in Potomac on Monday morning displaced a family of six along with several pets, according Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services.

A family of three adults and three children evacuated their home on the 9900 block of Potomac Manors Drive after smelling smoke about 6:15 a.m., MCFRS spokesman Pete Piringer said. A housekeeper went downstairs and discovered a fire in the basement.

About 45 firefighters responded to the scene and put out the flames in about 20 minutes, though they remained on the scene for a few more hours, Piringer said. There were no injuries.

The fire caused about $125,000 in damage to the 7,000-square foot single-family home, Piringer said. The fact that the housekeeper closed all the doors on the way out stopped the fire from spreading any farther, he said.
