Bikeshare stations to be installed along Bethesda trolley trail

Montgomery County won a $270,000 grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation to install four bikeshare stations along the trail, which will connect with stations being installed in White Flint and Twinbrook in the spring of 2018. The county also received about $47,000 to improve pedestrian routes to schools. [Montgomery County]

Pepper spray incident at Seneca Valley High School originated in girls’ bathroom

The principal at the school said several students reported congestion in their chests and staff members could smell what they believed to be pepper spray. As the smell began to permeate a portion of the school, the building was evacuated. Thirteen people, including 10 students, were transported to local hospitals, although none suffered significant injury, according to the principal. [Germantown Pulse

Ben Jealous details universal health care plan

The Democratic gubernatorial candidate said his program would build on Maryland’s “all-payer” health care system, which requires insurers pay a standard rate for hospital services. Jealous’ proposal did not include details about how much it will cost or whether Marylanders could choose to participate. Jealous is scheduled to appear Wednesday night with Sen. Alcohol holiday task force has arrested 86 people

Montgomery County police’s annual drunken driving holiday task force has arrested 86 people on DUI charges since it began three weeks ago. From Nov. 29 to Dec. 2, the task force arrested 24 people on DUI charges. Task force officers will continue to devote their full-time to DUI enforcement through Jan. 6. [Montgomery County police]
