Montgomery Parks is inviting people to party on Aug. 21 until the day turns to night … and then turns to day again.

The pair of gatherings to celebrate the solar eclipse will take place at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park in Silver Spring and Black Hill Visitor Center in Boyds. While the moon won’t completely block out the sun over Maryland, onlookers can still expect more than 80-percent coverage, according to the parks system.

“[N]ot too shabby!” parks officials wrote in an online event announcement.

Eclipse glasses will be available at both parties. The Black Hill event at 20926 Lake Ridge Drive will run from noon to 4 p.m. The one at Martin Luther King Jr. on 1120 Jackson Road will last from 1 to 4 p.m. and will include a dance party.

Parks officials picked the Silver Spring site for the event because it has a limited tree canopy and will offer people a good view of the sky, a system spokeswoman said. The Black Hill location runs science and astronomy programs, and the eclipse celebration will fall right into line with them, she said.
