Chevy Chase boy scout troop has included girls for years
Boy Scout Troop 52 in Chevy Chase has long included girls in its activities. They participate in the Scout group as part of the “venture crew” program. The girls said they enjoy the outdoor activities that Boy Scouts participate in. The troop welcomed news last week that girls would be admitted to the Scouting program. [NBC4]
Teens linked to MS-13 plead guilty for involvement in killing of Gaithersburg girl
Three teens arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a 15-year-old Gaithersburg girl, Damaris A. Reyes Rivas, pleaded guilty Tuesday to abduction and gang charges in Fairfax County. The teen girl’s body was found under a snowy overpass in Springfield, Virginia, in January. Since then, police have arrested more than a dozen young people linked to the MS-13 gang while investigating her murder. The young people reportedly participated in the killing of Reyes because they believed she lured another gang member to his death. [WAMU]
Construction set to begin soon on new Reagan National Airport security area
The airport authority is planning to begin construction on the $163.5 million project this month and it’s expected to be completed by late 2020. The work will affect the checkpoints for terminals B and C, as well as drivers dropping off passengers at the airport, as the work will require lane closures on the airport’s roads. [WTOP]
Georgia Avenue intersection to close Saturday
Crews plan to close the intersection of Georgia Avenue at Randolph Road in Silver Spring from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday to rebuild the intersection.
