A Japanese steakhouse is coming to downtown Rockville.

Kabu Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi—which offers hibachi dishes, meat entrees and a selection of sushi—plans to open at 1 Choice Hotels Circle, in the ground floor of the Choice Hotels International headquarters building near Rockville Town Square.

Construction should begin any day, and the restaurant expects to open in October, said Jim Crawford, senior property manager with Foulger-Pratt, the real estate firm that manages the building. He called the restaurant a “great asset” for the property.

Kabu has a location in Laurel. Its menu features hibachi chicken, filet mignon, BBQ kalbi short ribs and udon noodles. It has sushi options including the volcano roll, with blue crab and spicy tuna, and the Maryland Dream roll, with shrimp, lobster and spicy mayonnaise. The Laurel restaurant also serves beer, wine, sake and cocktails.

Kabu’s Rockville location was first reported by Montgomery Newsletter, a subscription-only real estate news bulletin.

The steakhouse has filed permits with Rockville to fill out the space, which will include outdoor seating.
