L’Academie de Cuisine closes

After 41 years of training chefs, L’Academie de Cuisine abruptly closed Friday. The announcement came at a staff meeting after the school’s last graduation ceremony. The culinary school was considered one of the best in the country and its graduates are behind restaurants in Montgomery County, Washington, D.C., and beyond. Low enrollment and bad finances led to L’Academie’s closure. [Washington Post]

Cessna registered to Potomac crashes in Indiana, killing three

A single-engine airplane flying from Kansas City to Frederick crashed in a heavily wooded area in southeast Indiana Saturday night, killing three people and a dog on board. A second dog survived the crash. The single-engine Cessna was registered to a Potomac limited liability company. The cause of the crash has not been determined, and the names of the victims have not been released. [Kansas City Star]

News anchors raise $6,000 for charity at Bethesda shopping event

Local news station anchors, including organizer Lesli Foster of WUSA9, appeared at the Kendra Scott boutique in Bethesda on Friday for a Girlfriends Give Back charity event. The night raised about $6,000 for the Anchor Fund, which supports survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. [Washington Post]

Maryland gets three more federal prosecutors

The U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland will get three additional federal prosecutors to curb increases in violent crime. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that dozens of additional attorneys will be posted in cities around the country. [Baltimore Sun]
