Car Strikes, Seriously Injures Pedestrian in Rockville

Rockville woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries


A woman was struck by a car and seriously injured when she was crossing a street in downtown Rockville Tuesday evening, according to police.

Dena Elise Balistocky, a 57-year-old from Rockville, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, police wrote in a press release Tuesday night.

Balistocky was crossing the southbound lanes of North Washington Street near Dawson Avenue at 5:26 p.m. when a 2015 Toyota Corolla driving south struck her, according to police. She lives nearby in the 200 block of North Washington Street.

Police identified the driver as Chinthaka Chaturan Amalage Don, of the 600 block of Diamondback Drive in Gaithersburg.

Police are investigating the incident, including whether Balistocky was in the crosswalk, what the traffic signal indicated at the time and which direction she was walking.
