'Pilates On Crack' Coming To Bethesda

Published:

Sculpt Studio will be Maryland's first dedicated to megaformer pilates, the so-called "pilates on crack" workout regimen that will bring another new specialty fitness studio to downtown Bethesda. The workout, 50 minutes of high intensity cardio, endurance, strength and flexibility training, has celebrity endorsers and now, a home in Woodmont Triangle. Co-owner Danielle Tate, of Potomac, said her group searched Bethesda since April for a location before finding a spot at 4900 Auburn Ave. The studio will open Jan. 25. Sculpt is offering a free class for anyone who likes the studio on Facebook. "I consider megaformer pilates more of a lifestyle and because it's a full-body workout -- there's a cardio element, there's a weight resistance component -- your entire body is being engaged for 50 minutes so you really isn't a need to go to the gym," Tate said. "I go for an hour, twice a week. I'm a mom and a CEO so for me it's return on investment." It is one of three specialty fitness studios that have announced openings in downtown Bethesda for 2014. PureRyde, a cycling and pilates studio, will open in Bradley Shopping Center. Pure Barre, a national chain that uses ballet bars for 50-minute workouts, will open in the Shoppes of Bethesda. Tate, who will open the studio with Bethesda residents Mary Farber and Ginine Beyer. She said megaformer pilates draws a more mixed crowd of males and females than regular pilates. (The workout was created by former French bodybuilder Sebastien Lagree.) Photo via Sculpt Studio
