Ri Ra Closes Shop, Montaditos, ShopHouse Inch Toward Openings

Ri Ra Irish Pub on Elm Street announced in May that it would be closing this month. According to this account from blogger Robert Dyer, closing time came Sunday and it was earlier than expected for some employees. The Shoppes of Bethesda, owned by Rockville based David Draiman, is undergoing a wave of lease-related turnover. A Ri Ra general manager said it didn't make sense for the bar to renew its lease in Bethesda. It is instead going to open a bar in Georgetown. Across Elm Street, in the Bethesda Row development, 100 Montaditos is inching toward its opening date. The Spanish sandwich chain has a Board of Liquor Control hearing scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18. So does ShopHouse Asian Kitchen, which is moving into the former City Lights of China space at 4820 Bethesda Ave.
