JBG Breaks Ground On Woodmont Triangle Apartment


[gallery ids="12271,10646,12269,12272,12270,12277"] Construction began Thursday on the next building part of the intense remaking of Woodmont Triangle. Developer JBG Companies and its investment partners held a groundbreaking event for the 7770 Norfolk, a 17-story, 244-unit apartment that will mean another new high rise in the veteran commercial area known for its local businesses and ethnic eateries. "When you look around, [you see] all the one-story buildings and yet you look at the area -- it is so vibrant. It's close to jobs and transportation but yet it still has this really authentic charm," said JBG parnter Kai Reynolds. "It's really what attracted us to the development too. I really hope this development adds to that in some way." Construction is expected to take two years. There will be 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail and four levels of underground parking on the former site of a batch of restaurants. The project was formerly known as 4900 Fairmont. Across Fairmont Avenue, construction continues on Bainbridge Bethesda, a 17-story, 200-unit building. A block away, on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Old Georgetown Road, Chevy Chase-based Starr Capital is winding through the approval process for a 17-story, 70-unit building of luxury condos. On Rugby Avenue, construction is almost done on the 17-story, 235-unit apartment building from Donohoe, with a second building at the site planned. JBG is planning another 17-story apartment building not far away, at the 7900 Wisconsin property that houses an office building and Fitness First. "The growth in Bethesda has been phenomenal and it's a great thing for Montgomery County," said Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center Ken Hartman, a county executive staff member. "The homes you are building will serve folks who will be able to enjoy and embody the spirit of smart growth." Fifteen percent (or about 37) of the units will be moderately priced per the county's MPDU requirement. The building will include a rooftop pool, outdoor lounge, fitness center and bike storage space. No word on pricing. Check out the website here.
